Digital billboard campaign gets emoji-tional

Sony Pictures Animation is bringing everyone’s favorite emojis from the mobile screen to the silver screen and ahead of the movie’s release, those same characters have popped up on digital billboard screens in Chicago. Working with JCDecaux and using real-time traffic and weather information, Sony could display different emojis based on current conditions in the city. In beautiful weather and efficiently moving traffic, billboards might display the sunglasses-wearing Gene or the Smiler emoji. However, stormy weather and congested expressways produced equally dismal emojis like a “meh-faced” Gene and the Devil!
