Wax Figure Treasure Hunt at MTR Central and Hong Kong Stations

For the unveiling of its new Fashion Zone exhibit, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong capitalized on the opportunity to work with JCDecaux Transport to launch a customized mobile app, Connect on the Go.


Large attention-grabbing posters with game instructions were on display for eight weeks throughout two of China’s busiest transportation hubs, MTR Central and Hong Kong Station. Passers-by were encouraged to download the app on their smartphones to experience a virtual treasure hunt. 


This innovative app leveraged Beacon (Bluetooth low energy) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to engage mobile users with 32 Madame Tussauds wax figure checkpoints. At each checkpoint, a push notification prompted users to scan posters. A photo frame appeared, allowing for selfies with famous celebrities and the possibility of a grand prize upon collecting all 32 shots.
