Airports: The Ideal Venue for Advertising Travel Destinations

Airports are bustling hubs of movement and an ideal location for advertising travel destinations, particularly during the holiday season due to the influx of passengers. In fact, TSA reported an all-time high of over 39 million passengers being screened from December 19th to January 2nd. Advertisers have chosen to advertise on our inventory in 3 of the top 10 U.S. airports, MIA, LAX and DFW. With millions of passengers passing through terminals daily, airports offer a unique opportunity to engage a highly targeted, travel focused audience.

Travelers are inherently in the mindset of movement and adventure, which makes them a receptive audience for advertising specific destinations. Surveys show that 35% of Americans are always considering their next trip, allowing advertisers to get ahead of competitors and be at the forefront of travelers minds when they are ready to book their next holiday.

Advertisers can also leverage the high dwell times in airports whilst passengers are waiting for their flights, going through security or waiting for their baggage, offering more opportunities to be exposed to and engage with OOH campaigns. In this way, they can capture the attention of a diverse and premium demographic, made up of national and international travelers, including business professionals and affluent individuals who have higher purchasing power.

New Year, New Travel Plans

Airports are a natural fit for advertising towards the end the holiday season when people begin to reflect on their goals and plans for the new year, and travel is often at the top of their lists. According to Expedia,  55% of Americans plan to book their next vacation in the first quarter of the year, making this a critical decision making period for travelers.

As more holidays are on the horizon such as Easter, Spring Break and summer, the desire for warm weather, scenic retreats, or cultural escapes becomes even more relevant, and destination-specific campaigns can tap into these travel intentions. In addition, hotels and airlines often offer New Years promotions and packages and convenient prices, driving bookings for the coming months.
